I felt the need.. Post post… post!!
Rant of the Week – Cropped Photographs
Welcome to a weekly segment I’m starting called Rant of the Week! Every week I will rant about something I think is wrong in the world and how I think it should be fixed.
This week’s Rant of the Week is about cropped photographs.
Now what I mean by cropped photographs are any pictures taken with two people who are/were dating with one of the people in it cropped out.
For example, let’s say there’s a picture of a boy and a girl hugging. The girl who was in the picture edits this picture by cropping the boy out of the picture. So now she has a picture of just herself with her arms extended into the edge of the picture.
She’s not fooling anyone. We all know there was someone there.
Now to me this is just wrong. If someone takes a picture with someone for sharing on the Internet or elsewhere, they need to post the entire picture.
It’s just plain tacky to post a cropped photograph. Anyone who does so is insulting the person they cropped out. It’s like saying to the world, “This picture is wonderful…except for this other person in it. Lemme just crop them out…”
DON’T BE A CROPPER!
With the abundance of high-quality cameras out there in everything from computers to phones, anyone should be able to just take a picture alone and achieve an acceptable level of visual quality.
There is absolutely no excuse for posting cropped photographs.
If cropping an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend out of a photograph is a gesture meant to hurt the cropee’s feelings, then to the cropper I say, “Get over yourself!” If you hate that person so much, just switch your profile picture on MySpace or Facebook or whatever to a picture of yourself alone. By posting a cropped photograph, you are only keeping the painful memory of the cropee alive.
It’s like you’re cutting your wrists with the sharp edges of your own cropped photographs!
So I beg of the world, don’t post cropped photographs! Cropped photographs offend anyone who sees them and not just the person cut out of the picture.
